The new 2014 S-Class will be available in four sizes, including a longer, limousine-esque version which will feature a row of rear-facing seating that will fold away when not needed. With so many new models appearing, especially in the US, we’re not really surprised to see Mercedes-Benz sales soar. To be precise, March 2013 was “the best month in our company’s history to date,” according to Dr. Joachim Schmidt, Executive Vice President Sales and Marketing. The United States contributed an increase in sales of 12.5% for the quarter. The B-Class was a strong performer in Europe, so as Mercedes dealers we’re looking forward to the day that the B-Class Electric Drive model becomes available in the US (later this year).

A major effort by Mercedes-Benz to introduce a flock of new models seems to be paying off, as Mercedes branches out in to new markets and makes luxury affordable and appropriate for a wider range of consumers. With new “entry-level” offerings and exciting developments in more diverse body styles, like compacts, SUVs and crossovers.

Designed with a new generation of car buyers in mind—the same one Mercedes-Benz has had its eye on as it’s added offerings like the not-yet-released 2014 CLA-Class and upcoming C-Class variations—the GLA-Class concept is equipped with killer design and some futuristic tech elements. (For example, headlights with a laser-beam projector that can project pictures or video onto a screen.)

The concept vehicle is 17 inches shorter than the 2013 Mercedes-Benz M-Class, and gets its juice from a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, getting an impressive 208 horsepower. It has a seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. Mercedes is currently exploring upgraded compact designs similar to those found in the A-Class and B-Class (currently not available in the US) which have been leaders in the German auto market so far this year. The GLA-Class concept has smooth, dark aluminum accents and supple leather trim, as well as some inventive air vent lighting that glows white, blue or red depending on the temperature settings.

Concepts like these offer some valuable insights into how the automaker sees its market evolving or growing in the coming years. Increasing focus on this new focus on younger buyers in the United States, while finding new ways to offer great value, luxury and tech at affordable (often ‘entry-level’) prices, we’re sure Mercedes-Benz has hit on a recipe for success. Using adjacent pixels on a TFT-LCD display, two separate images can appear simultaneously on the screen; the driver can view and access the COMAND® system or navigation features, and the front passenger can watch video or otherwise engage the screen. This feature is truly made for multitasking; helping drivers maintain focus on the road while entertaining or assisting the passenger at the same time. We think it’s quite ingenious!

And already Mercedes-Benz has reported a gain of 9.2% in sales for January 2013, which saw great numbers in the United States. With so many new products coming out later this year, like the highly-anticipated 2014 E-Class and brand new CLA-Class, we’re ready for another great year of Mercedes sales.
